Internship Grades & Reflective Journals: Requirements & Resources
As part of Internship Program reporting and SACSCOC accreditation requirements, an update for Summer 2026 includes three required reflective journal prompts for all interns across all academic departments. These reflective journal prompts should be included in addition to all other journals assigned to the intern by the Faculty Sponsor/Academic Department (see Section 11 on the Internship Proposal Form). For UGR 020 internships, the three required prompts may be addressed within the Required Reflective Statement.
Internship grades, along with a provided rubric for the three required prompts, will be submitted together via a link (to be posted on this page and emailed to Faculty Sponsors) and will be due September 30, 2026. Delayed submission of grades may result in delayed faculty internship stipend distribution.
- Required Reflective Journal 1: One journal will specifically prompt the student to identify a concept or theory from coursework and describe how they apply it in their internship (3-criteria rubric: (1) clarity of concept, (2) accuracy of application, (3) insight gained.)
- Required Reflective Journal 2: One journal entry will focus on field-related insights, including how the student’s interest, expectations, or direction evolved.
- Required Reflective Journal 3: One journal entry will prompt students to describe one meaningful professional connection and its potential relevance for their career goals.
Resources for Additional Reflective Journal Prompts
Interns are required to keep a reflective journal weekly that makes the connection between daily experiences and learning. Outside of the three required prompts above, additional reflective journal prompts are encouraged at the discretion of the Faculty Sponsor & Academic Department. See below for more optional resources and samples.
