Position Overview
The Novelis Kennesaw team is seeking a Corrosion Co-Op. The person in this role will report to the Corrosion Scientists and Engineers. The ideal candidate will be responsible for materials development, plant trials (casting, hot and cold rolling etc.), and testing for corrosion performance at various environmental variables. The materials to be tested will contain different levels of recycled aluminum bare or coated. This position will contribute to the key scientific understanding of recycled Al performance, materials design, and testing.
Responsibilities & Qualifications
Responsibilities:
- Conduct sample and test preparation
- Work with the lab for testing
- Analyze data and present the results to stakeholders
- Observe all environmental, health and safety regulations, and suggest improvements where applicable
Minimum Qualifications:
- Materials science junior/senior, or graduate level is preferred
- Lab work experience (experiment design and safe chemical handling)
- Fundamental electrochemistry, corrosion, and metallurgy
- Lab safety awareness
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Must be available for at least 6 months starting in Spring or Summer 2024
Preferred Qualifications:
- Materials science graduate level
- Hands-on experience on electrochemistry and corrosion
- Surface characterization (optical, SEM/EDS)
- Metal processing (mechanical testing, materials characterization, metallurgy, heat treatment)
