Statewide Mining Inspection Program
Annual Salary Range: $67,764 – $108,060
Looking for an opportunity to work with a collaborative team at the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC)? This position leads a team of inspectors across the State of Tennessee performing statutorily required mining inspections directly related to National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits.
Candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree or higher in environmental science from an accredited college or university and a minimum of four years’ full-time professional environmental program, natural resource conservation, or environmental regulatory compliance work. Highlighted Responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage the statewide Mining Inspection Program, while tracking staff performance and progress toward annual Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) 106 Work Plan completion, including detailed reports and issuing notices of violation.
- Ensure statutorily mandated number and frequency of inspections are completed based on the EPA 106 Workplan.
- Work with Mining Manager, Compliance & Enforcement Coordinator and Division Directors to review drafted orders, proposed penalties, and corrective actions and aid the legal team should litigation be necessary from an inspection or citizen complaint.
- Provide oversight with permit issuance and annual monitoring and provide legally defensible stream/wet weather conveyance determinations.
