Looking for an opportunity to work with a collaborative team at the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC)? The Division of Water Resources’ (DWR) Natural Resource Unit (NRU) has a position in the Nashville Central Office or one of the seven Environmental Field Offices (EFO) working in a diverse team environment with other DWR staff, as well as directly with our regulated community in regional areas. An employee may perform a full range of environmental compliance activities with focus on customer service and maintaining relationships with the regulated community.
Candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college/university in engineering, environmental science, biology, physical sciences, or other related environmental science fields and four years of full-time professional environmental program, natural resource conservation work, or full-time professional work that involved ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. Highlighted Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the Interagency Review Team (IRT) by coordinating federal, state, and local partners; facilitating decision-making processes; and ensuring timely review of mitigation proposals.
- Oversee Tennessee’s aquatic resource mitigation program, including review, evaluation, and approval of mitigation banks; in-lieu fee projects; and permittee-responsible mitigation plans.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal regulatory requirements by developing review procedures, monitoring project performance, and guiding staff and applicants through technical and administrative expectations.
- Provide leadership and direction to NRU staff, including mentoring, workload planning, performance oversight, and coordination of mitigation-related priorities and deadlines.
- Represent DWR in stakeholder engagement, including presenting program updates, coordinating with agencies, responding to public inquiries, and supporting policy development related to mitigation and aquatic resource protection.
