TDEC Environmental Scientist 1
Division of Water Resources
Jackson Environmental Field Office
Annual Salary Range: $48,684 – $60,936

Looking for an opportunity to work with a collaborative team at the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC)? The Division of Water Resources has a position in our Jackson Environmental Field Office (JEFO) working with our great team, as well as with other JEFO staff and the regulated community.

We are seeking a candidate who can effectively communicate with a diverse internal and external customer base to perform a full range of environmental compliance activities. Preferred candidates will possess strong time management, organizational, and customer service skills. This position requires fieldwork at construction sites and vacant properties, in all weather conditions, with frequent day travel. Candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university in the preferred degrees of agronomy, environmental science, biology, physical sciences or other related environmental science fields. Experience performing inspections of Subsurface Sewage Disposal Systems (SSDS) is a plus. Candidates must meet the minimum qualifications (MQs) for this position. Highlighted Responsibilities:

  • Acquire and maintain a working knowledge of rules governing SSDS.
  • Utilize digital processes for all document completion.
  • Timely Review all SSDS permit applications.
  • Evaluate and approve or deny proposed subdivisions.
  • Accurately complete all Construction and Installation Inspection Reports for SSDS and all Environmental Investigative Reports within the designated time frames.
  • Investigate complaints of unlawful sewage disposal, unpermitted subsurface sewage installation and other regulatory infractions.
