Berea Undergraduate Research and Internship Symposium (BURIS)
Important Note: Registration in Handshake is not required to attend the presentations. If you plan to present at the symposium, the registration link provided will take you directly to the BURIS registration form to sign up (deadline Friday, October 11)._____The symposium will begin at about 2:30 pm (depending on number of registrations) with oral presentations in rooms on the 3rd and 4th floors of the MAC building. Each room will have two sessions with a short break between them. Each room will have a faculty or staff member serving as moderator; student presenters will be asked to have appropriate computer files in the hands of this moderator before the session starts. The poster session will start at 3 pm in the atrium of the MAC building. Students will be able to hang posters either Thursday night (October 17) or Friday morning (October 18).The talks and poster session will end at 5 pm, and we will have a short break before we have our plenary talk at 5:10 pm in the planetarium in the MAC building. This year our plenary speaker is Sydney Henderson (Berea class of 2016) who will give a 45-minute talk about her journey to Berea and her educational and career pathway after Berea. She is currently a Program Specialist in the Child Nutrition Program Branch of the USDA Food and Nutrition Service. Prior to joining the USDA, Sydney served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Ghana for three years. Her service was unfortunately cut short near its conclusion due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Following her return to the U.S., Sydney enrolled in a dual master’s program at the Heller School for Social Policy and Management. All members of the community are welcome to attend any of the oral sessions, poster sessions, and plenary talk. We do ask that any student giving an oral presentation be in their presentation room for the full session and participate by cheering on their peers giving presentations. We also ask that all student participants (oral and poster) be present for the plenary talk (participation in a symposium includes engaging all aspects of the event even if some parts are somewhat outside your area of expertise).
